or any third world country I would imagine:
- Is your water really safe to drink?
o African women walk an average of 6 miles a day to get water. Americans walk an average of 6 miles a month
- Do you really eat three meals a day?
o Americans spend $1 billion on dining out a year. 799 million people will go hungry tonight.
- Are there enough schools for every child in your country
o American teens spend an average of $101 a week. $101 will send 2 African children to school for a year.
- How long do you expect to live?
o Average life expectancy in Zambiais 35 years old. That’s two years older than Sally.
- Do you have a car?
only 8 % of the world owns a car. That means 92% of the world doesn’t. Do you even know anyone who doesn’t own a car?

Isn’t America already blessed? Aren’t we already blessed? So shouldn’t the question be who then shall we bless?
8% of the world owns a car. How many cars does your family have? more than one probably. So to 92% of the world, you are rich.

Soooo why are we always singing hymns that other people wrote?
Last night we wrote our own — sing with us!
We started with 14 two syllable words that describe God:
Friendship Children Open Mother Lovely Awesome Jesus Nature Sunlight Haven Comfort Selah Anchor Promise
Now just sing it to the turn of Amazing Grace …
Pretty cool! My new favorite hymn.

we all know — I love fun words … Theophany is my newest … how boring is it to say "God shines forth." Theophany – it’s so fun to say it – and it makes me think of a symphony of angels in the night sky blowing trumpets and singing those heavenly choruses – and of course bathed in the purest of light! Theophany! Today we celebrated the Feast of Theophany otherwise known as Epiphany and Three Kings Day … or my fave: the Feast of Lights.
Thing is you just never know when you’ll find yourself in a moment of Theophany – I think I was bathed in it for several hours this evening with the youth room over packed on what I thought would be a relatively low attendance Sunday evening since school doesn’t start until tomorrow.
The dearest moment of Theophany this evening: naming presents we would give Jesus (knowing what we know now) … things like a journal and a pen so he could write it all down himself and following along those lines … a blog, would really expand his audience. a digital camera – we’d finally know what he and his friends actually looked like. chocolate frosting and a spoon. nikes. one of our versions of the Bible so he could edit it for us. a comfortable crib. diapers. play doh for stress relief …
Theophany. God shining forth. Christ plopped right in the middle of us.
It indeed didn’t just happen – it happens. It happened once again this evening – not in Bethlehem but in Franklin, TN. Theophany!
